1. Videoconference with South Africa: Mathematics Teaching and Learning in Multilingual Classrooms

Initial questions to set the stage:
What do multilingual mathematics classrooms look and sound like?
What makes them multilingual?
What does this mean for teaching?

2. Reports: OAME, OMCA, OCMA, CMESG and others.

3. Research Presentations by:

Dr. Richard Barwell, University of Ottawa
'Mathematics teaching and multilingual learners in a UK primary
school: an example involving word problems'

Dr. Mamokgethi Setati, University of South Africa
'Using language as a transparent resource in the teaching and learning
of mathematics in a Grade 11 multilingual classroom'

4. Discussion and questions

Light refreshments will be available starting at 9:30 a.m. and lunch will be served at a convenient time during the meeting
