Problems Involving Differential Algebraic EquationsOver the last 15 years substantial progress has been made on both the theory and numerical solution of Differential Algebraic Equations (DAEs). These results and techniques are now being applied in a number of areas. However, these applications often require modifications or extensions of the existing theory. This talk will begin with a very brief review of certain facts about DAEs. Then the wide range of current problems involving DAEs will be illustrated with three examples that the speaker is personally interested in. They are the numerical solution of state constrained optimal control problems, the design of auxiliary signals for failure detection and model identification, and the design of general constraint preserving DAE integrators. The talk will be aimed at both graduate students and experienced researchers and will hopefully serve as a catalyst for further discussions. |
