Mathematics In The Biotechnology Industry
Still a young industry, biotechnology is playing an increasingly
important role in agriculture and healthcare, and therefore in
people's lives. Progress in biotechnology has produced high though-put
technologies that rapidly generate massive amounts of biological
data. The need for computational tools and mathematical methods
to analyze this data has resulted in increased interactions between
biologists and mathematicians.
The talks presented here will focus on two major types of data:
the discrete sequence data from large scale genome sequencing
projects and the continuous data generated using microarrays,
an essential tool in biotechnology today. These talks will illustrate
the role of mathematics and statistics in the biotechnology industry.
