Graduate School on Toric Topology
Description
Scientific Goals
Two intensive mini-courses will be given on the two workshop themes. These are designed to give graduate students and early career researchers in nearby fields a better understanding of each subject by presenting multiple viewpoints from different lecturers, thus enabling the participants to better engage in the subsequent workshops and seminars.
The Graduate School is timed to immediately precede the first research Workshop on Polyhedral Products. Linking the two workshops enhances their visibility to graduate students and early career researchers who would get to attend two events instead of one.
Lecturers
Homotopy Theory of Polyhedral Products:
- Martin Bendersky, Hunter College of CUNY
- Donald Stanley, University of Regina
- Stephen Theriault, University of Southampton
Torus Actions in Topology and Geometry:
- Anthony Bahri, Rider University
- Lisa Jeffrey, University of Toronto
- Taras Panov, Moscow State University & NRU Higher School of Economics
Format
Each mini-course will consist of 5 hours of lectures and a one hour problem session, running at 2 contact hours for each day of the school.
Suggested Background Knowledge
First year graduate (or comprehensive exam) level courses in algebra and topology.
