Flexible quad-surfaces and elliptic functions

Abstract:
Consider a polyhedral surface in the combinatorics of a square lattice made of rigid quadrilaterals. For a generic choice of the shapes of faces this surface is rigid. For example, a 3x3-surface is governed by a system of four polynomial equations in four variables: a surface is flexible if and only if the solution set has dimension greater than zero. We classify all flexible cases with the help of a parametrization of the configuration space of a spherical quadrilateral by elliptic functions.
