Abstract:
This series of three lectures will provide an introduction to the combinatorial theory underpinning the rigidity of graphs and frameworks. The first lecture will introduce basic concepts, results and proof techniques by a study of 2-dimensional bar-joint frameworks. The second and third lectures will describe how these were extended in a recent joint work with Katie Clinch and Shin-Ichi Tanigawa to characterise the maximal abstract 3-rigidity matroid.
