Floer Homology Bootcamp
Description
Pseudoholomorphic curves, introduced by Gromov and vigorously developed by Floer, have completely reformed the landscape of symplectic geometry. As a consequence, "Floer homology" has become a pervasive aspect of life as a symplectic geometer.
However, it has been incredibly challenging to set up a firm foundation of pseudoholomorphic curves in the most general case (despite this theory's successful application to a number of symplecto-geometric problems). Fukaya-Oh-Ohta-Ono's voluminous works create precisely such a framework. One consequence of their work is a rigorous definition of the "Fukaya category", a substantial invariant of a symplectic manifold. Moreover, this category plays the critical roles of the "A-model" in homological mirror symmetry, a proposal of Kontsevich which provides a profound connection between symplectic and algebraic geometry.
The goal of this workshop is to reinforce the Coxeter lectures which will be presented by Kenji Fukaya during the same week. In the morning sessions, we will learn the basic ingredients of Lagrangian Floer theory focusing on the developments of Fukaya-Oh-Ohta-Ono. Afternoons will involve more advanced talks highlighting recent advances in Floer theory.
