Special Lecture Series
Lecture Series hosted or supported by the Fields Institute.
The Fields Institute promotes mathematical sciences through a variety of Special Lecture Series, including Distinguished Lectures delivered by leading international scientists, and Public Lectures aimed at a general audience.
The following ongoing Special Lecture Series are currently supported by the Fields Institute.
Avner Magen Memorial Lectures
CRM-Fields-PIMS Prize Lectures
The CRM-Fields-PIMS prize is the premier mathematics prize in Canada, jointly awarded by the Centre de Recherches Mathématiques (CRM), the Fields Institute, and the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS). The prize recognizes exceptional achievement in the mathematical sciences. Each year’s winner is invited to deliver a talk of their choosing.
Distinguished and Coxeter Lecture Series
The Distinguished and Coxeter Lecture Series bring a leading international mathematician in the field of the current Thematic Program to give a series of three lectures. The first of the lectures is intended for a general mathematical audience, and the remaining lectures are intended to highlight recent developments in the field.
Margaret Sinclair Memorial Award
The Margaret Sinclair Memorial Award recognizes an early- to mid- career educator in Canada who has demonstrated innovation and excellence in promoting mathematics education at the elementary, secondary, college or university level. The recipient has an opportunity to present a talk at the Fields Institute during the fall of the academic year following the award.
Distinguished Lecture Series in Statistical Sciences
Keyfitz Lecture in Mathematics and the Social Sciences
This annual public lecture series highlights the relationship between mathematics and the social sciences. The purpose of the series is both to inform the public of some of the ways quantitative methods are being used to design solutions to societal problems, and to encourage dialogue between mathematical and social scientists.
Fields-Carleton Distinguished Lecture Series
The Fields-Carleton Distinguished Lecture is an annual lecture sponsored by the Fields and Carleton University. The series features internationally-renowned speakers with expertise in mathematics, statistics, computer science or a related area. Each guest speaker delivers a public lecture as well as a research lecture, which is more technical in nature.
