Distinguished Lecture Series: Monique Laurent
Description
Monique Laurent is a researcher at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica, the national research institute for mathematics and computer science in the Netherlands, and a professor at the department of econometrics and operations research at Tilburg university. She was an invited speaker at the 2014 International Congress of Mathematicians and was elected as a SIAM fellow in 2017. She is a fellow of the Royal Holland Academy of Sciences and Humanities (KHMW, 2019) and of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW, 2018), board member of the scientific committee of MFO Oberwolfach, and editor of a number of international journals. Laurent is also the author of a widely influential book "Geometry of Cuts and Metrics" and highly cited papers on matrix completion as well as sums of squares, and optimization over polynomials, all of which are key topics of the Thematic Program on Geometric Constraint Systems, Framework Rigidity, and Distance Geometry. Professor Laurent will give 3 lectures spanning her recent work on these topics. The lectures will take place during the Workshop on Distance Geometry, Semidefinite Programming and Applications.
