We will explore a connection between square tilings, harmonic functions, and random walks. In particular, we will address the question: can you tile a rectangle with squares? We will see how this problem leads to questions in probability, and it can be solved thinking about harmonic functions and random walks. 

 

The talk is meant to be accessible to non-specialists, including undergraduate students.
