Analytics & AI: Thoughts for Educators from the Field
Having worked with top international organizations in both the formation of their artificial intelligence strategy and the implementation thereof, Matt has a unique perspective to how traditional analytics and business practices are being affected by the explosion of AI. In this talk, Matt will provide demonstrations of the leading edge of AI, showcase tools common to data scientists, and share his top three pieces of advice for educators who teach within mathematics programs, and educators who teach in non-mathematics programs.
Bio:
Matt McInnis is a math geek, computer programmer, tech entrepreneur and former college mathematics professor. He's an artificial intelligence (AI) lead at Microsoft, former AI lead on IBM's Open Source Team, and was selected as the top faculty member by Centennial College's Board of Directors in 2012. Professionally, Matt enjoys helping organizations transform their business practices using open source technologies such as Apache Spark, and mathematical techniques such as machine learning and deep learning. However, Matt is most proud of his volunteer work. He is an active member,
speaker, and organizer in the Meetup community, he sits on the Toronto Machine Learning Summit's Steering Committee, his venture Where The GOOD Is partnered with top charities such as Evergreen and Habitat for Humanity to increase their number of volunteers, he is a volunteer mentor with organizations such as Ladies Learning Code, and in 2011 co-led a trip to Kenya with 35 teacher candidates from the University of Toronto and York University.
