In this talk we will consider codimension two minimal surfaces in asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds. Such surfaces are related to entanglement entropy in quantum field theories holographically dual to such geometries. We then argue that the renormalized area of such surfaces defines a renormalization procedure for entanglement entropy in the dual quantum field theories. This renormalization procedure can be generalized to entanglement entropy in quantum field theories that do not have geometric duals.
