Abstract:
Nicholson's blowflies equation is one of the seminal examples of nonlinear delay differential equations describing population dynamics, and it is known for its oscillatory dynamics. A vast amount of work has been dedicated to undesrstand this equation in the past four decades, and it has been often used as a benchmark to illustrate novel techniques and tools. In this talk we give an overview of past results, and then we show some recent developments regarding bifurcations, extensions to heterogeneous environments, and evolutionary dynamics.
