Abstract:
Every Riemann surface comes with an affine space of complex projective structures. What happens when you go to infinity along a straight line in that space? This question has ties to several parts of geometric topology. It also has a long history in the analysis of differential equations, where it appears as a question about the "classical limit" of the Schrödinger equation. I'll describe the geometry behind an answer from analysis: the old but still mysterious WKB method.
