Abstract:
The pointwise ergodic theorem of Birkho was generalized by Bourgain to ergodic averages over certain subsets of the integers, primary examples including the set of squares and the set of primes. The outline he gave is very general and has since been adapted to the setting of diophantine problems in many variables. In this talk we are aim to discuss some results and questions in this area.
