I will discuss an attempt to obtain an emergent metric space-time from matrix theory, more specifically from the BFSS matrix model which is a proposal for a non-perturbative definition of superstring theory. Thermal fluctuations in the emerging early universe scenario generate scale-invariant spectra for curvature fluctuations and gravitational waves.
