Abstract:
Euler’s identity has been been repeatedly voted the most beautiful equation in mathematics. Some have gone as far as tattooing this sequence on to their bodies! What makes this arrangement of the fundamental symbols in mathematics (e, i, pi, +, 1, =, and 0) so special? In this interactive session, we see why euler’s identity is relevant today and the audience plays the eipiphiny card game as we engage in a pedagogical inquiry of the structure of the game’s design.
Parker Glynn-Adey is a mathematician and teacher at the University of Toronto. He works on quantitative aspects of geometry, using width and curvature to study geometric subdivision problems. Parker is also an avid collector of board games.
