During the COVID-19 pandemic, the epidemiology of regions implementing an elimination strategy required a novel model framework. For such regions, I will describe approaches to model fitting, scenario modelling, and how to develop theory that can recommend elimination strategies. I will describe the data, analysis, and communication needs to aid future pandemic preparedness.
