My Data Analysis Career at the Canadian Federal Government
Dexen Xi has a Ph.D. in Statistics from Western University. At Western, he has developed statistical and data science methods for wildfire incident data collected by Natural Resources Canada. Before joining the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) as a quantitative analyst, Dexen worked as an undergraduate co-op student at Statistics Canada, as a research associate at the National Research Council Canada, and an electoral data officer at Elections Canada. At CRA, he has developed a weighted-average methodology for each branch at CRA to share the cost of using Business Intelligence (BI) tools (e.g., IBM Netezza Performance Server, SAS, R, Python, MS Power BI). The success acceptance of this innovation by the executives involves forming a consensus among a multi-disciplinary group of employees, as well as several valuable assets that researchers may have gained in their research studies and career for the Canadian federal government.
