Provoking thinking about numeracy

Abstract:
Participants will work in groups, with a representative reporting on their group’s discussion.
Each group will be given a task, to stimulate thinking about numeracy, and to try to answer a related question, such as: Is numeracy really different from mathematical thinking/ mathematical modelling? Why do we need numeracy, why isn’t math instruction/teaching enough? Is numeracy important for elementary education, but not that important for university education? Why don’t we teach logical reasoning in K-12 as it can be viewed as a part of numeracy?
