RESEARCH REPORTS - BREAKOUT ROOM 3 - Financial numeracy curriculum in college pathways: A contrast of secondary and postsecondary curricula
This presentation explores the integration of financial concepts within mathematics education, particularly focusing on college pathways in Ontario, Canada. Through analyzing secondary and college-level mathematics curricula, we identified courses incorporating financial topics for personal and professional development. College-oriented secondary courses primarily focus on personal finance, while college courses address finances both for personal and professional purposes. Reflections on gaps, overlaps and complementarity between these realms, as well as potential for addressing systemic issues, will be shared. Additionally, a learning situation centered on budgeting will be introduced to illuminate financial numeracy's relevance for personal, professional, and citizenship purposes.
