Abstract:
Philosophers like trying to tell scientists and mathematicians what they are actually doing. The results of these efforts have led to three main perspectives: constructionism, anti-realism, and realism. Though remarkably different, each of these isms have contributed greatly to our current understanding of science and mathematics. This talk will briefly present each ism with the hope of demonstrating why philosophy matters to the practices of science and mathematics.
