It is well-known that the cohomology of a smooth toric variety is concentrated in even degrees and torsion-free. However, it is not true for singular toric varieties in general. In this talk, we study sufficient conditions for a singular toric variety to have a torsion-free and vanishing odd degree cohomology. We also discuss several applications that can be obtained from this result.
