Deformation spaces of Lie groupoids are an important tool in the index theory of pseudodifferential operators. In this talk, I will explain the geometric data needed to define a deformation functor in the context of Lie groupoids, and relate our constructions with Connes' tangent groupoid and the osculating tangent groupoid of Choi-Ponge, van Erp-Yuncken, and others.
