Abstract:
Beginning a series of talks on generalized geometry in the geometric structures lab, I will explain the basics of generalized Kahler geometry, in which we have a Riemannian metric compatible with a pair of compatible
complex structures, each parallel relative to a connection with skew torsion. This geometry was discovered in 1984 in the study of nonlinear sigma models, but many aspects of the geometry were poorly understood until recently.
