Is it on the test? Preparing prospective mathematics teachers
Description
The Ontario Ministry of Education has introduced a new Mathematics Proficiency Test for prospective teachers, and we find ourselves with many questions. What information has been made public so far? What does the international landscape of teacher licensure testing look like and what does research evidence suggest could (or should) be on such a test? Can a proficiency test really measure what teacher knowledge and teaching practices best support student learning? What are faculties in Ontario currently doing to support and develop math teachers and teaching, and could we - as a community of math educators - be doing more?
