Abstract:
I will discuss the identification of the homotopy type of K-theory spectrum of fields containing an algebraically closed subfield. This identification involves nothing about the field except its separable Galois group. It leads to purely algebraic identification of representation theoretic information for the separable Galois group with arithmetic information about the field. The result is obtained through the use of derived versions of completions of ring spectra. We will also speculate on the future directions for this work.
